Privacy policy
Last updated 6 October 2026
TerraPulse is a live news globe: world news from public news feeds, an AI-written Daily Brief, an AI chat about the news, and market prices. This policy explains what TerraPulse collects when you use the website (terrapulse-lap1.onrender.com) or the TerraPulse apps for iPhone and Android, why, and what you can do about it.
Who runs TerraPulse
TerraPulse is run by Georgy Sopromadze, United Kingdom, who is the data controller under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR). Contact: admin@terrapulse.uk.
What we collect, and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your full name and email address, the time you signed up, and the type of browser or phone (its "user agent") | Only if you sign up. Signing up is required on the website and optional in the apps. | To create your TerraPulse account and send you TerraPulse news and updates. We never share or sell them. |
| A random device ID made by TerraPulse and kept on your device, the days you used TerraPulse, your language, your device type (phone, tablet or computer), its operating system, whether you use the website or an app, your time zone, and the country that time zone belongs to | When you open TerraPulse | To count how many people use TerraPulse and come back, and from which countries. The country comes from your phone's time zone setting, never from your location. |
| Feature counts: how many times each feature was used each day (for example opening the Brief, saving or sharing a story, asking the AI), and the minutes TerraPulse was on screen | While you use TerraPulse | To learn which features are useful. We record that a feature was used, not which stories you read or what you asked. |
| Notification details: the address your phone's notification service gives TerraPulse, its encryption keys, your time zone, and which notifications you want | Only if you turn on notifications | To send you breaking news and the morning Brief at 7am in your time zone. |
| Invites: a random code in the invite links you send, how many times your links were opened (and on what kind of phone), and which new visitors first came through one | Only if you use Invite friends, or open someone's invite | To see whether invites work. We never see who you sent them to: you choose the contact in your own messaging app. |
| Your questions to the AI chat | When you ask a question | To answer it. Questions are not stored with your identity. An identical question asked by anyone in the last 30 minutes may be answered from a saved copy, to keep costs down. |
| A reported AI answer: the question, the answer, the reason you chose, and your device ID | Only if you tap Report on an answer | To check and improve the AI answers. |
The device ID is linked to your name and email only if you sign up, so that deleting your account also deletes your usage history.
Kept only on your device and never sent to us: the stories you save, the countries and markets you follow, and your settings.
Our server also handles your internet (IP) address to deliver the pages, and briefly in memory to stop abuse (for example too many sign-ups from one address). We do not store it in our database. Our hosting provider may keep it in short-term technical logs.
Legal bases
- Your consent for your sign-up details and for notifications. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account or turning notifications off.
- Our legitimate interest in understanding, in an anonymous way, how TerraPulse is used, and in keeping it safe and working.
Who else handles data
TerraPulse uses these service providers, only for the purposes above:
- Render (hosting; servers in Frankfurt, Germany).
- Supabase (database; servers in Frankfurt, Germany): sign-ups, anonymous usage, notification details and reports.
- Google (Gemini) writes the AI chat answers and the Daily Brief. Anthropic (Claude) is the backup when Gemini is unavailable, and translates news summaries. They receive your question and the news stories, not your name, email or device ID.
- Apple, Google and Mozilla notification services deliver notifications to your device.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr deliver the page's fonts and map files, so they see your IP address when the page loads.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised by UK law, such as standard contractual clauses.
News headlines and summaries come from the news outlets' public feeds. When you open a story, you go to the outlet's own website, which has its own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
- Sign-up details: until you delete your account.
- Device ID, visits and feature counts: up to 24 months, then deleted, or earlier when you delete your data.
- Notification details: until you turn notifications off, delete your data, or your notification service tells us the address no longer works.
- Reported answers: up to 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive a copy of it. The quickest way to delete everything is Account → Delete my account and data in TerraPulse. You can also use the deletion form or write to admin@terrapulse.uk. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
TerraPulse is a general news service and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Important changes will also be shown in TerraPulse.
